Whats the difference between the types of massage?

  Defenitions of Massage Modalities

Swedish
Swedish massage relaxes muscles through pressure applied to the muscles and joints with soothing strokes returning blood to the heart. This increases oxygen flow and releases toxins built up in the muscles.

Deep Tissue
Deep tissue massage works the deeper muscles to release tension in the body, usually chronic tension. This is done with slow strokes and concentrated pressure on the tense area to remove toxins and loosen muscles. Deep tissue massage can result in soreness for a day or two following the massage.

Trigger Point

Trigger Point massage works the different muscles layers individually. The therapist works surface muscles, connective tissues and deeper ligaments. This type of massage is similar to acupuncture, where pressure is placed on certain points of the body.

Reflexology
Reflexolgy is the application of pressure, stretch and movement to the feet and hands to effect corresponding parts of the body. By applying technique a reflexologist can break up patterns of stress in other parts of the body.

Reiki
Reiki is an ancient form of Tibetan massage. Using Chi or energy, not only are the symptoms of the disease healed but also the root of the problem is found and healed. This is key because the root of the problem may be emotional, mental or spiritual.
The client remains clothed while the practioner places their hands over different chi or energy centers on the body.

Prenatal Massage
A massage for the mother-to-be performed in a side-lying position aimed at increasing circulation, which reduces swelling, reducing stress on weight bearing joints, easing muscle tension and promoting relaxation.

Hot Stone
Hot stone massage uses smooth, heated stone to sooth and relax your muscles. The stones are usually volcanic because of their ability to absorb heat well. The therapist may place smaller stones around your body and use larger ones to massage you.
